Formerly know as the KB Hotel, Keg & Brew opened on the 8th of October 2014 as a deep-south American haven of bourbon, beer and bites. With a rotating selection of over 30 craft beers on tap, and even more bourbons, we specialise in, and boast one of the largest collections of craft beers and bourbons in Sydney. Every bourbon is a whiskey, but not all whiskeys are bourbon
A true Bourbon, as defined by the US federal trade regulations must be made in the U.S.A. from a grain mash made up of at least 51 percent corn. It must be distilled at a maximum strength of 160 proof, bottled at least 80 proof, and aged in new charred oak barrels at no more than 125 proof. The Keg & Brew features a growing list of 30 different bourbons and Tennesse Whiskeys. Here, bourbon is served five ways, Neat, on ice, or as one of three traditional Bourbon cocktails.

Featuring 33 different Beers & Ciders
The Keg & Brew features what is probably the highest number of beers available per meter of floor space in the whole of Australia. Licensee Wombat Kraegen, who curates the tap list, sources local beers and ciders range from the latest local craft beer start ups tapping everything from interesting seasonal and experimental brews to tried and tested craft beer favourites. If your pallet is less adventurous or more on the traditional side there’s still a bank of golden oldies from CUB including VB and Resches. The venue also features three traditional hand pumped ales on tap.

Traditional hand pumped beer
Traditional hand pumped ale is served at a cool cellar temperature of around 8-10 degrees and features a soft carbonation from the “live” yeasts in the beer. Beer served under hand pumped conditions show greater complexity in flavour and a higher degree of drinkability.

The Australian Pub X Southern Hospitality
Food is provided by head chef Devendra Sherchan, formerly sous chef at the Dove & Olive, who has brought his much-loved traditional pub food to the venue with a new deep South American twist. Bites range from snack-style Fixin’s to the heartier Grub and Grill and Between Bread selections. Signature dishes include Big Tex Bacon Bites, KBFC, Kentucky Bourbon Black Angus Rump and a Philly Cheese Steak. There are also a number of vegetarian and vegan dishes including the mouthwatering Vegan Maple Glazed Polenta Cake. Dessert is not for the faint-hearted, with a Deep Fried Twinkie served with chocolate fondue and sprinkles with vanilla ice cream that will test even the most hardened sweet tooth.

The Keg & Brew (formerly KB Hotel) was shut down, renovated and reopened by the team behind the Dove and Olive in early October, 2014 with a sharp focus on bourbon, craft beer & great value pub food with an American backbone.
The grand overhaul has breathed new life into the venue, a heritage-listed building that’s remained relatively untouched since the KB’s establishment in 1936. The whirlwind renovations lasted just seven weeks and saw a new American oak floor, an extended kitchen and a new comfortable women’s bathroom installed.
The greatest change happened right in the guts, where a state of the art cellar was configured to service the 33 taps.
All of the pub’s original heritage features have been kept and restored, including the traditional wall tiled interior, custom Tooths lager exterior wall tiles and the grand central bar, with the addition of some southern styling. It’s the Australian pub meets American saloon.
The Keg & Brew offers budget pub style accomodation only 200 meters from Central station. If you’re looking for a cheap hotel or a cheap room, short term or long term, get in touch today.

We don’t take bookings or functions at Keg & Brew, however we’d love to have you at our sister craft beer venue in Surry Hills featuring 24 Australian beers and ciders. They’ve got plenty of space and specialise in large groups and functions.
